ElVena J. Anderson

ElVena J. Anderson, age 82, of Clarion, died on Tuesday, April 2, 2002, at the USA Healthcare Center in Dows.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., on Saturday, April 6, at the Willim Funeral Home in Clarion with Rev. LaVonne Kaasa of the Clarion First United Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery.

ElVena June (Hawe) Anderson, the daughter of John and Myrtle (Rinehart) Hawe, was born on June 22, 1919 at Hampton. She attended school and graduated from the Dows High School in 1938.

On January 26, 1941, ElVena was united in marriage with Sven Anderson at the Methodist parsonage in Clarion. The couple farmed in Wright and Franklin Counties. During that time, ElVena helped Sven on the farm and she tended to their home and family. In 1973, after retiring from the farm, the couple moved into Clarion. While living in Clarion, ElVena worked as a sales clerk at both Skogmos Department Store and later at Karen's Clothing Store.

She was a member of the Clarion First United Methodist Church and in her spare time, she enjoyed her family, knitting, country music and find-a-word puzzles.

Survivors include her husband, Sven of Clarion; one daughter, Beverly Claude and her husband, Francis of Clarion; one granddaughter; two great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; a brother, Louis Hawe and his wife, Bernadine of Garner; two nieces; and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Jeanne E. Strom

Jeanne E. Strom, 85, of Clarion, passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2002, at the Wright County Medical Center in Clarion.

Funeral services were held on Friday, April 19, at the Willim Funeral Home in Clarion. Rev. Gary Boen officiated at the 10:30 a.m. service. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery, Clarion. The Willim Funeral Home of Clarion was in charge of the arrangements.

Jeanne Strom, was born on March 7, 1917 in Clarion, the daughter of Lloyd and Jeanette Morgan Strom. She was raised in Clarion and graduated from the Clarion High School in 1934. In 1938, she received her R.N. degree from the Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago, Illinois.

1st Lt. Jeanne Strom served as a nurse in the U.S. Army during World War II from September 1942 until December 1945, at various posts in the United States and in England.

Jeanne earned her B.S. from the University of California in 1950 and her Master's degree in Public Health in 1959. She worked in the Public Health Department in the State of Iowa from the early 1950's until her retirement in 1981.

After retiring Jeanne enjoyed volunteering at the Science Center of Iowa and Living History Farms. After living in Des Moines for 35 years, Jeanne became a resident at the Meadows Apartments in Clarion.

Jeanne is survived by two sisters, Jeri (Alvin) Charlson of Belmond and Helen Capp of California; three nephews and one niece and their families.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one sister, Mary Byrne.
