Jim Latham, Clear Lake.  Jim uses new technology in the pursuit of genealogy.  How to book a round trip to Europe for around $200, make long distance phone calls for free or virtually free.  How to make a photographic family tree.  Adding video to an electronic genealogy scrapbook.  Using internet Query Engines.  Making a narrative slide/video show our of family portraits, photographs and video media.

“Bread Cast Upon The Waters  
– the efforts of George Henry Evans To Reform His America.”

Jeff Pilz, Instructor – American History Professor at NIACC!  “George Henry Evans was an independent newspaper man from 1829 to 1849.  This was a period when most newspapers were funded by political parties.  As an independent Evans set forth unpopular ideas that did not bear fruition in his lifetime but ultimately did come to pass.  Jeff Pilz has completed a dissertation on George Henry Evans.  His program will be highlights from his dissertation with an allowance for interaction from our members.

Butler County, a program on the genealogy in one room school houses.  Where are the records archived?  What can be learned?

"The Tombstones of Toowoomba"  
Tony Vanderpool, from the land down under, Toowoomba, Queensland, Australia.  Tony shares a photographic tour of a grand project digitally preserving a photographic memory of cemeteries in Queensland.  The concept is the program, a new adventure in using the digital camera to preserve a visual and virtual record of a cemetery.

Ruth Umbarger takes us on a video tour of our NCIGS Genealogy Library.  For the new and the experienced we see our library from the perspective of Ruth who over the years has contributed much to the success of our library.  Our genealogy library stands out as one of the finer genealogy resource facilities in the Midwest.      
Loren Toomsen
will share a five minute review of his trip to New York City last weekend following the September 11th attack on the World Trade Center and the Twin Towers.  It includes a personal visit to "ground zero" and the processing activity at Ellis Island which is currently closed to the public.  Pictures and souvenirs will be displayed.

Cancelled!

Due to a furnace failure in the Mason City Room at the library and the promise the room would be cold, the NCIGS meeting scheduled for Saturday December 1st has been cancelled.  The next regularly scheduled N.C.I.G.S. meeting will be Saturday January 5, 2002.
