January 1:  
Due to the New Years holiday the Society elected to not meet today but enjoy Y2K and the very special celebrations surrounding our entry into the new millennium.

February 5:
Meeting 1:30 p.m.
"Vintage Clothes"  Suzanne Evans, Joice, presents our February program on "Vintage Clothes".  Suzanne found an old forgotten trunk full of turn of the century clothes in an attic.  The trunk belonged to her husbands late great aunt.  The aunts sister died at age 21, another sister died at age 41.  The clothing items are well preserved and tell interesting stories from the turn of the century.  They have been dry cleaned, brought back to life and may be modeled.

March 4:
Meeting 1:30 p.m.
"Immigration and Ports of Entry"  March 4th is a perfect day to "March forth" into Immigration.  Gene Watson and Loren Toomsen present our March program with a background on the Processing Center in New Orleans and the Port of Baltimore, Maryland.  The program includes a slide show presentation about Ellis Island and the experiences of the immigrants early in the last century.

"New NCIGS Brochure and Web Page!"  Our newly upgraded North Central Iowa Genealogical Society Web Page will be visited in a video-taped visit and our brand new brochure will be presented.  A dialog and preparation for the April 15th North Central Iowa Genealogy Fair.

“Big Sister, Dixie Willson!”  Art Fischbeck
, dubbed the “unofficial” historian of Mason City,  (515-423-0636) tells of books, short stories and even several movies based on works by Dixie Willson.  Dixie was as much an artist in her own right as her younger brother Meredith.  Art will also tell us about “Sketch Books” on North Central Iowas famous families that can be found in the library.

Ruth (nee Tweeten) Holtan, Forest City, has traced one of her trees back to a Nordic King Harold Hairfair -- yes he was blond -- born 849 AD and died 933 AD at the age of 83.  King Hairfair was one Viking who died in bed.  Ruth has quite a story to tell.
